Go to the emergency room or call your doctor immediately if you experience a severe allergic reaction. Signs include difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, or tongue, and hives.
Seek immediate medical care if your strep throat symptoms worsen significantly after starting amoxicillin. This includes a high fever (over 101°F or 38.3°C), severe sore throat pain preventing swallowing, or difficulty breathing.
Contact your doctor right away if you notice any new or unusual symptoms while taking amoxicillin, such as persistent diarrhea, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), or dark urine. These could signal serious complications.
If your strep throat doesn’t improve after several days of amoxicillin treatment, contact your doctor. They may need to adjust your medication or investigate other potential causes.
For children, contact a doctor immediately if they exhibit symptoms of dehydration alongside their strep throat, such as decreased urination or dry mouth.
