Tadalafil’s Impact on Intraocular Pressure

Studies show tadalafil generally doesn’t significantly affect intraocular pressure (IOP) in healthy individuals. However, caution is advised for patients with pre-existing glaucoma or other conditions impacting IOP.

Some studies report a slight, transient IOP increase in a small subset of patients. This increase is typically minimal and resolves without intervention. However, ophthalmological monitoring, particularly for patients with glaucoma, is recommended before initiating and during tadalafil treatment.

For individuals with glaucoma or ocular hypertension, a careful risk-benefit assessment should be conducted before prescribing tadalafil. Close monitoring of IOP is crucial in these cases. Alternative treatments might be considered if IOP elevation is observed.

Current research suggests no strong evidence linking tadalafil to significant, sustained IOP increases in most patients. Nevertheless, individual responses vary, warranting individualised assessment and monitoring.

Always consult with an ophthalmologist if you have concerns about the potential impact of tadalafil on your intraocular pressure, especially if you have pre-existing eye conditions.
