Individuals with heart conditions, especially those with unstable angina, recent heart attack, or uncontrolled high blood pressure, should avoid sildenafil. This includes people with a history of stroke or irregular heartbeats.
Specific Health Conditions Requiring Caution:
Sildenafil interacts negatively with nitrates, medications often prescribed for chest pain. Combining them can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Those with retinal problems, such as retinitis pigmentosa, should also exercise extreme caution, as sildenafil can worsen these conditions. People with severe liver or kidney problems need to discuss sildenafil use with their doctor due to potential accumulation of the drug in the system. Men with a history of priapism (prolonged erection) should absolutely avoid sildenafil, as it could trigger another episode.
Consult your physician before using sildenafil if you’re taking medications for high blood pressure, alpha-blockers (for prostate problems or high blood pressure), or antifungal medications such as ketoconazole and itraconazole. These medications can interact with sildenafil, increasing the risk of side effects.
