Safe and Effective Use of Prednisolone Eye Drops: Dosage and Administration

Always follow your doctor’s prescribed dosage. Typical dosages range from one to two drops in the affected eye(s) every four to six hours. However, your specific instructions might differ.

Before administering the drops, wash your hands thoroughly. Gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a pocket. Squeeze a single drop into this pocket, avoiding direct contact with the eye.

Close your eye gently for about one to two minutes after application to allow the medication to absorb properly. This helps prevent the drops from draining away too quickly. Gently press on the inner corner of your eye (near your nose) for a few seconds to minimize systemic absorption. This is particularly important with long-term use.

Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any surface. This prevents contamination of the medication.

Store prednisolone eye drops at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Discard any unused medication after the expiration date printed on the bottle.

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any adverse effects, such as increased eye pressure, blurred vision, or eye pain. Regular monitoring by your eye doctor is crucial during long-term treatment.

If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember, unless it’s nearly time for your next dose. Never double the dose to make up for a missed one.
