These reports highlight the need for vigilant monitoring, especially in individuals with pre-existing risk factors for pancreatitis, such as gallstones or alcohol abuse.
Diagnostic challenges exist as pancreatitis can have multiple causes. Doctors rely on clinical presentation, blood tests (amylase and lipase levels), and imaging studies (ultrasound, CT scan) for diagnosis. Careful consideration of the patient’s medication history is critical. If ciprofloxacin is suspected, discontinuation is usually recommended.

The prognosis generally improves with prompt diagnosis and treatment. However, severe cases may require hospitalization and intensive care.
Data from large epidemiological studies on ciprofloxacin and pancreatitis are limited. More research is needed to fully clarify the association and determine the precise risk factors and incidence.
