Always inform your doctor about all medications you take, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal supplements, and recreational drugs. Sildenafil and tadalafil can interact negatively with nitrates, commonly prescribed for chest pain. This combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.
Alpha-blockers, used to treat high blood pressure and enlarged prostate, can also interact. Combining them with sildenafil or tadalafil may lead to significantly lowered blood pressure. Your doctor should carefully monitor you if you use both.
Certain antibiotics, such as erythromycin and ketoconazole, can increase the levels of sildenafil and tadalafil in your blood, potentially enhancing side effects. Your doctor might adjust your dosage accordingly.
Individuals with severe heart or liver problems, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or a history of stroke or heart attack should exercise caution and discuss the risks with their physician before starting treatment. Similarly, those with retinitis pigmentosa (a rare eye disease) should avoid these medications.
Men with pre-existing eye conditions should be particularly vigilant and undergo thorough eye examinations before and during treatment.
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should absolutely avoid these medications.
If you experience sudden vision loss, hearing loss, or prolonged and painful erections (priapism), stop taking the medication immediately and seek medical attention.
