Experience shortness of breath after taking Zithromax? Don’t wait. Seek immediate medical attention if you exhibit any of the following:
- Sudden onset of severe shortness of breath, especially if accompanied by chest pain or tightness. Difficulty breathing that interferes with your ability to speak or carry out basic activities. Wheezing or whistling sounds during breathing. Bluish discoloration of your lips or fingertips (cyanosis). Rapid heart rate or palpitations. Lightheadedness or dizziness along with shortness of breath. Swelling in your ankles, legs, or feet.
Severe Allergic Reaction Indicators
Zithromax, like all medications, carries the risk of allergic reactions. Shortness of breath can be a sign of a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis).
- Hives or rash. Swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Severe itching.
These symptoms require immediate emergency medical care. Call emergency services or go to the nearest hospital immediately.
Other Reasons to Contact Your Doctor
Even if your shortness of breath isn’t severe, contact your doctor if:
Shortness of breath persists for more than a few days after finishing your Zithromax course. Your shortness of breath gradually worsens. You have any concerns about your breathing or your overall health.
Your doctor can assess your situation and determine the appropriate course of action.
