How Amlodipine Lowers Blood Pressure

Amlodipine achieves this by targeting specific calcium channels in the muscles of your arteries. By blocking these channels, it prevents calcium from entering the muscle cells. Reduced calcium influx leads to relaxation of the arterial walls, widening the blood vessels (vasodilation). This wider diameter reduces resistance to blood flow, thereby lowering blood pressure.

Beyond blood vessel relaxation, Amlodipine also slightly reduces the heart’s workload. This is because the reduced afterload (the resistance the heart encounters when pumping blood) eases the effort your heart needs to exert.
