Over-the-counter permethrin creams are available for treating head lice and scabies. Always follow the product instructions carefully.
For head lice, apply permethrin cream to dry hair, ensuring complete coverage of the scalp and hair shafts. Leave it on for the recommended time (usually 8-10 hours), then thoroughly rinse and comb out the lice and nits with a fine-toothed comb. Repeat treatment after 7-10 days if necessary. Careful combing is critical for complete removal.
To treat scabies, apply a thin layer of permethrin cream to all skin surfaces from the neck down, paying special attention to areas between fingers and toes, underarms and groin. Leave it on for 8-14 hours, then thoroughly wash it off. A second application is usually needed after 7-10 days. Ensure you treat all members of your household simultaneously to prevent re-infestation.

If symptoms persist or worsen after treatment, consult a doctor or other healthcare provider. Permethrin may cause skin irritation in some individuals. Stop using the cream and seek medical advice if you experience severe irritation or allergic reaction. Remember to wash all bedding and clothing in hot water after treatment.
