Before receiving dexamethasone acetate, inform your doctor about any existing medical conditions, especially diabetes, glaucoma, heart problems, liver or kidney disease, tuberculosis, myasthenia gravis, or any mental health issues. Also disclose any current medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements, as interactions are possible.
Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment, as it can exacerbate potential side effects. Monitor blood sugar levels closely, especially if you have diabetes. Dexamethasone can significantly elevate blood sugar.
High doses or prolonged use may increase the risk of infections, cataracts, peptic ulcers, muscle weakness, and osteoporosis. Regular eye exams are recommended if you are on long-term treatment.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Dexamethasone acetate should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. The medication may pass into breast milk.
Immediate medical attention is needed if you experience severe allergic reactions (such as hives, swelling, difficulty breathing), sudden vision changes, severe stomach pain, or any unusual symptoms. Report any changes in mood or behavior promptly.
Children should be monitored for growth and development, especially with long-term use. Dosage adjustments are often needed. The injection site should be observed for any signs of infection.
Elderly patients may be more susceptible to side effects. Close monitoring is required. Dosage adjustments may be necessary.
