Potential Side Effects of Requip

Requip, while effective for managing Parkinson’s symptoms, can cause side effects. These vary in severity and frequency. Some are common, others less so.

Common Side Effects

Many experience nausea, dizziness, and drowsiness. These often lessen as your body adjusts to the medication. Sleep disturbances, including vivid dreams or sleepwalking, are also reported frequently. Constipation is another common issue. If you experience these, drink plenty of fluids and maintain a fiber-rich diet. Discuss these side effects with your doctor; they can often be managed.

Less Common, but Serious Side Effects

Impulse control disorders are a potential concern. These can manifest as compulsive gambling, excessive shopping, hypersexuality, or binge eating. These are serious and require immediate medical attention. Report any unusual behavior changes to your doctor right away. Similarly, Orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure upon standing) can occur. This can lead to fainting or dizziness. Rise slowly from a sitting or lying position to minimize this risk.

Dyskinesia (involuntary movements) can also develop, although this is less frequent. Your doctor will carefully monitor for this and adjust your medication if necessary. Allergic reactions, though rare, are possible and may present as skin rashes or breathing difficulties. Seek immediate medical help if you experience an allergic reaction.

Remember, this is not an exhaustive list. Always consult your doctor or pharmacist for complete information and to discuss any concerns regarding your medication.
