Post-Administration Care and Follow-Up

Monitor the patient for at least one hour post-infusion for any immediate reactions, such as hypotension, or allergic responses. Observe for signs of infection at the infusion site.

Closely monitor vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, and respiratory rate, throughout the observation period and document findings. Compare these to baseline values.

Assess the patient’s fluid status. Pay particular attention to signs of fluid overload, such as edema and shortness of breath. Adjust fluid management as needed, following established protocols.

Assess pain levels using a validated pain scale. Administer appropriate analgesics as prescribed by the physician.

Educate the patient and caregiver about potential side effects, including nausea, vomiting, increased appetite, and insomnia. Provide clear instructions on managing these side effects.

Schedule a follow-up appointment with the prescribing physician to evaluate the patient’s response to Decadron and to monitor for any long-term effects.

Advise the patient to report any unusual symptoms, such as severe headache, vision changes, or changes in mental status, immediately to their physician.

Document all observations, interventions, and patient responses in the medical record.
