Check your child’s temperature regularly. A persistent fever, especially one above 101°F (38.3°C) after starting amoxicillin, suggests the infection isn’t responding well. Look for improvements within 24-48 hours; ear pain should lessen, and your child should show more energy.
Observe ear drainage. While some initial drainage is normal, increased or foul-smelling discharge warrants a call to the doctor.
Monitor your child’s behavior. Is their appetite improving? Are they sleeping better? If their overall condition doesn’t show improvement within 48-72 hours, contact your pediatrician.
