While generally well-tolerated, Econazole nitrate cream can cause some mild side effects. These usually resolve on their own once you stop using the cream.
The most frequently reported side effects include:
| Burning or stinging sensation | A temporary burning or stinging feeling at the application site. | Apply a thinner layer or discontinue use and consult your doctor. |
| Itching | Increased itching in the treated area. | Reduce the frequency of application or consult your doctor for alternative treatment. |
| Redness or swelling | Mild redness or swelling around the application site. | Monitor the area; if it worsens, stop using the cream and see a doctor. |
| Dryness or cracking of the skin | The skin may become dry or cracked in the treated area. | Use a moisturizer after applying the cream. If severe, contact your doctor. |
| Rash | A skin rash may develop in some individuals. | Discontinue use and contact your doctor immediately. |
Severe allergic reactions are rare but can include difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, and hives. If you experience any of these, seek immediate medical attention.
Always read the product information leaflet for a full list of potential side effects and follow the instructions carefully.
