Preparing the Patient and IV Site
Select a suitable IV line with good blood return. Cleanse the IV port thoroughly with an antiseptic solution. Ensure the patient is comfortable and lying down to minimize the risk of orthostatic hypotension. Monitor the patient’s vital signs, particularly blood pressure and heart rate, before, during, and after administration.
Administering the Medication
Administer the Metoprolol slowly over at least 2 minutes. Observe the patient closely for any adverse reactions like bradycardia, hypotension, or bronchospasm. Monitor the patient for at least 30 minutes post-administration for any changes in vital signs or appearance of symptoms. Immediately report any adverse events to the physician.
